Dragon’s Dogma 2 Sorcerer Build Guide

In this Dragon’s Dogma 2 Sorcerer Build Guide, we’ll be talking about the advance vocation Sorcerer in Dragon’s Dogma 2. We’ll be talking about the Sorcerer vocation, from how to play it, spells to use, its differences with a mage, and how to unlock the vocation. This article will contain all the information you need to play a Sorcerer Build in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Sorcerer Build – A Sorcerer’s Role

A Sorcerer Build’s role in Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be the artillery of the group. You’ll be hanging back behind your group, casting AOE spells that deal massive amounts of damage – with a trade-off of often having a longer casting time. Since Sorcerers’ spells usually take a long time to cast, they need to always have good positioning to not get interrupted while casting spells.

A very good pawn pairing for sorcerers will be a Fighter or a Warrior, as they will keep attention away from sorcerers. They can unleash devastating spells while the tanks divert the enemies’ attention.

Unlocking the Sorcerer Vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2

You can unlock the Sorcerer vocation by heading to the Vocation Guild situated at Vernworth. You will then pick up the side quest Vocation Frustration. Finishing the quest will naturally unlock the vocation for you. Keep it in mind, however, that acquiring the vocation will require you to have 150 discipline points.

Basics of Combat for a Sorcerer in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Sorcerers cast their spells the exact same way mages do. If you have been playing a Mage Build, then swap to a Sorcerer Build, you will be familiar with the mechanics of casting spells. However, one unique thing about sorcerers that separates them from mages will be having the spell Galvanize instead of Anodyne. Galvanize is a very useful spell both inside and outside of combat, as this spell replenishes stamina quickly. As sorcerers sprint more often and consume stamina fast, Galvanize will be very important to use.

A mechanic of a Sorcerer that’s similar to a mage will be quick casting. Your spell’s casting time will be shorter, but it will consume more stamina. Since you have Galvanize, this mechanic will be worth using as a sorcerer, so make sure to use it whenever you can.

Just like Mages, Sorcerer Builds will also have the Levitate spell. This will be helpful for getting away from enemies or exploring the landscape.

Stamina Management as a Sorcerer in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Stamina is important to all vocations, but you should pay extra attention to using stamina effectively as a sorcerer. Your spells cost so much stamina, so there’s a few things you can do to be more efficient with your stamina. You’ll sometimes accidentally sprint due to the settings. A way to prevent this is to change your default sprint mode from toggle to hold so you don’t accidentally sprint.

Levitate is a fun way of traversing the landscape, although you won’t regain stamina when you use it. Try to not use it in combat, unless it is really necessary.

Pay attention to your character’s weight as it affects your stamina consumption and recovery. You can consider creating a smaller character if you choose to play as a sorcerer. Also, don’t forget to give items to your pawns to keep your weight low. Lastly, you can always use consumables to replenish your stamina if necessary.

Useful Spells as a Sorcerer in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Levin | High Levin

You will get Levin early on in the game as a mage, as it is their bread and butter. This spell will be good to use as a sorcerer mainly because it has a quick cast time compared to the other spells you can cast. It’s a very good AOE spell as it lands on top of the enemy, making it very hard to block for them. If you need to cast a spell quickly, High Levin will be your choice.

Hagol | High Hagol

Hagol is a unique spell to sorcerers. This spell creates an ice dome which does AOE damage, which also gives a chance to freeze enemies. Hagol works particularly well on big targets or a large group of targets, which is basically everything you’re going to fight in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Salamander | High Salamander

Salamander is a fire spell which does fire damage over time to enemies. It is a spell which sets the ground on fire in a narrow line. Enemies could easily get out of the spell’s AOE as it is pretty small, so I recommend you use this when an enemy is knocked down or can’t move. If you’re having trouble landing this on enemies, you might want to swap it with other spells.

Seism | High Seism

Seism is a physical damage spell, which is really nice to use against enemies that resist magic type damage. As a sorcerer, all your spells will be offensive, so dealing damage will be your only option. This is a good spell to have in case situations like this pop up, so you can be effective as a sorcerer.

Maelstrom

A spell you can swap out seism for, which also does physical damage, is Maelstrom. This is a skill you can unlock pretty early on in the game from questing. It has a long spell cast time which could not be sped up with quick casting, but it will do a massive amount of damage to enemies.

Prescient Flare | Augural Flare

Prescient Flare is a spell that summons an orb which you can attack. If you keep attacking it, it deals more damage to enemies surrounding it. It will eventually explode, which deals additional damage. You can use this spell knocked down enemies, as it will deal massive amounts of damage to them.

Suggested Augments and Equipment for Sorcerer

A good augment for sorcerers will be Asperity, as it will increase your chance of inflicting debilitation which you’ll be doing a lot. Exaltation is also good as it increases your stamina recovery, something you will greatly need as a sorcerer. Catalysis increases damage against weakness elemental of enemies, so that will be great if you have it. Generally, you’ll want stamina recovery and damage boost augments.

As for equipment, staves will have different inherent buffs applied to them. However, you’ll want to prioritize the highest maximum magic stat first instead of the buff. Early on, you can go to Checkpoint Rest Town to find a good staff. Make sure to keep upgrading your staff as you progress through the game. For rings, you want to look at stamina recovery and damage boosts. You shouldn’t be worried with protection, as your party should do that for you.

That concludes our Dragon’s Dogma 2 Sorcerer Build Guide, and we have many others as well for you to check out. You can use the Dragon’s Dogma 2 Wiki as well if you have further questions.
