Manor Lords Became The Most Wished Game on Steam

The release of Manor Lords is just around the corner, and the title arrives surrounded by hype rarely faced by a solo developer. Greg Styczeń has found that his game is the most wished for on Steam based on the number of wishlists. That’s why he wanted to remind the community what to expect from the title. He doesn’t want to sell it to users with wrong expectations and run away with the money. Whoever decides to buy it should do so for what it is and knowing what it can become in the future.

Manor Lords Is Not a Competitor to Total War

The medieval city builder surpassed Hades 2, Black Myth: Wukong, and Hollow Knight: Silksong, among others. This is particularly impressive considering that Slavic Magic, alias Greg Styczeń, is just one guy who initially funded the game through Patreon.

The anticipation for Manor Lords has been high since it was announced in 2020, fueled by the popular demos of Steam Next Fest. Before its early access release on April 26th, there are already those who have been able to try it and speak highly of it.

Ensuring he wanted to clarify the situation before Early Access begins on April 26th, Greg posted the following message on Steam: “Manor Lords is not a competitor to Total War. It’s a city-building game. There are battles, but they’re not as frequent as you’d expect. Most of the game you’ll be building and managing your city. It’s also not a game about managing an empire.

The map has regions, but you won’t be conquering all of Europe or getting married or things like that. This is played on a much smaller scale,” he reminded fans.

The developer also pointed out that his game is nothing like competitive RPGs or RTS, genres it had also been associated with. “The experience is mostly relaxed, with moments of high intensity sweetening a city-building game,” he explained.

Manor Lords Is The Most Wished On Steam

Greg also commented on the Early Access release situation: “I know this might disappoint someone, but I think it’s the right thing to do. It’s my first serious game. Not only are there things left to finish, but I bet you’ll ask me to change some details you don’t like.”

It’s commendable to see how a developer who has spent seven years working on his own title doesn’t let himself be blinded by the idea of increasing the number of copies sold and tries to moderate fans’ expectations. Manor Lords looks excellent when viewed from the perspective of a city-building game with some strategic or combat aspects.

However, it can only disappoint us if we expect anything else. The big difference in this case is that, as it is an independent title, there have been more confused users than on other occasions.

Before carrying out the Early Access launch, the developer has put the game in the hands of, for example, content creators. This has not only allowed us to know firsthand that the title lives up to what we expected, but it has also led to the detection and correction of some flaws.

Manor Lords will be available on both Steam and Game Pass. Although it will be adapted to Xbox consoles, it will initially be exclusive to the PC version.
